Carrefour and City Centre Mall

18 HD Channels?! Wow, so many! haha
On our third night here, Ms. Dalia and the school bus took us to the Carrefour to get all the household supplies and such that our flat was missing. Carrefour is basically like a Super Wal-Mart. The prices are fairly cheap. It just depends. Sometimes things are wayyy cheaper than you expect them to be, sometimes they are about the same and sometimes they are way more expensive. For example, we needed hangers for our closets. We had to pay 25le for a pack of 12 dollar store quality hangers....a little more than $4.
Part of the food court. There was also KFC and McDonald's

Can you guess? Yep, It's a Starbucks!!!!
The night we went to the Carrefour, it was sooo chaotic. The school took us after Iftar, the break in the fast during Ramadan. A little educational lesson on Ramadan: Ramadan is a month of the year where Muslims fast from sun up to sun down each day. So they usually eat a large breakfast early in the morning before sunrise, and then they sleep or stay inside most of the day (and many businesses close during daytime hours) and then at sunset, they eat a big feast to conclude their fasting for the day. This break in the fast is called Iftar. After Iftar, the city and stores come alive. Imagine it as 16 million people working the graveyard shift for one month.... So back to Carrefour...we went right after Iftar....so let your imagination help you realize how crazy it was in there!!! I am pretty sure there was probably like several thousand people in the store. Think of going to Walmart on a Friday, typically payday, right around 5:30 when people are getting off work. Now, think of doing this in a city of 20million people? Get the picture? Now picture it in a city where you do not know the language? Haha. It was so chaotic. We couldn't even hear ourselves think. Also, our flat was pretty bare when we rented it, so we were pushing around two full carts of things in this chaos. Pretty much a nightmare! We needed to buy sheets, pillows, towels, dining ware, etc etc.

The Carrefour is located inside of a small one-story mall called the City Centre. Inside the mall there are many American stores, there is a food court and a play ground, and also many Egyptian stores. Familiar stores included, Guess, Nine West, Payless, Zara, HM (coming soon), Claires, Starbucks, Chilis, KFC, Pizza Hut, McDs, Hardees....and probably some more. It's amazing right? Who knew Egypt had malls? hahah. Just kidding.

Now when we need something from Carrefour or the mall, we go early in the morning. Can you blame us?
